Networking :: Social Media Networking - What Are the Advantages?

You've seen all the claims of people earning enormous incomes by working a few hours a day in an online business. Perhaps you've even attempted to get your own online business up and running only to find that you earned a few dollars, but nowhere near enough to make a full time living out of your efforts.

The advantages of social networking are that you can reach larger groups, there are many business groups on social networking sites which allow to network your business ideas to them too, as well as the general public.

Many new internet marketers spend a lot of money buying ebooks and online courses in an effort to learn the secrets of the internet big guns, only to find that the information they've bought isn't sufficient to boost their online business profits the way they'd hoped. This is usually because so many of these gurus are only giving away the basic secrets to their success. They don't always want you to know the full story.

Some people spend way too much money creating, designing, and launching expensive, professional looking websites, hoping to attract a few visitors to the site and make a few sales.

So how are these internet millionaires making so much profit?

One of the most under-utilized marketing tools on the internet is social media. Static web pages no longer have the same power with internet marketers as blogs and certain social media websites do, so the shift toward gearing your business to thrive and expand using social media platforms seems only logical.

By learning to harness the massive power of social media and blogging, you could easily increase your profits, drive huge amounts of traffic to your affiliate sales pages and be making massive sales easily.

By now, you should be thinking "Okay, great. I'll start up a blog and create an account with Twitter and blast my affiliate links all over it."

If you are thinking along those lines, you're normal. Unfortunately, you'll soon learn that social media doesn't work that way. You'll be labeled a spammer very quickly and ignored by most of the people you're trying to attract.

You see, social media is about connecting with your visitors. You're introducing a bit of yourself to them so they're getting to know you and to trust you. You're building a relationship with people who will soon identify your brand and your products as being quality items they're happy to purchase from someone they've come to trust.

Imagine what you would do with your profits from your own online business once it's consistently earning more every month. You wouldn't need your day job any longer and you could spend more time doing the things you love most.

Life's too short to waste it laboring in a job you despise. Kids grow up too quickly so that if you're spending all of your time at your job, you're going to miss your kids' most important events. Obviously for all of us spending more time with our loved ones is a huge advantage and what most of us desire.

There's an old saying: "There's no point making a living if you're not making a life." I don't know who originally said that, but it's so true.

Perhaps it's time for you to begin creating the life you want with the help of social networking.

Body Team 12

From the Philippines to the Arctic, Nigeria to Iraq, last year was an incredible adventure - but I was most taken aback by my experience in Liberia as an aid worker and a first responder. Being on the ground during the height of the viral Ebola outbreak in 2014, I was astonished by the bravery of Liberia's Ebola body teams, and in particular, Garma Sumo, the female body collector featured in the film BODY TEAM 12. I was immediately inspired by her - by her fearlessness, determination and love for her community.

Garmai, and the brave body teams, are the behind the scenes heroes of the epidemic, selflessly risking their lives for the sake of their country. I knew I needed to tell this story as a tribute to their courage. It is my hope that this film becomes a platform to raise awareness and support for the ongoing Ebola relief efforts, and especially for the newly orphaned children who lost their parents to the disease.

While this was my most dangerous project, it was also the most fulfilling. It was the perfect avenue to not only break the stigma and misconception surrounding viral epidemics like Ebola, but also to inspire others to volunteer in tough situations.

History is defined by people who stood up against huge odds to fight immense battles. If it was not for the courage of the body teams, the Ebola epidemic would be far worse. Africa, and ultimately the world, owes so much to this small group of brave young Liberians. I hope BODY TEAM 12 earns them gratitude from people all around the globe.

Microsoft plotting Skype Teams as a competitor to Slack

Microsoft plotting Skype Teams as a competitor to Slack - SlashGear

Earlier this year, we heard that Microsoft had considered putting in an $8 billion offer for Slack, a group messaging service that has quickly grown in popularity over the last few years. Then, remembering that it had already shelled out billions of dollars for Skype, Microsoft pulled out of negotiations with Slack. Now it seems Microsoft is planning to use the Skype platform to develop a Slack competitor, calling it Skype Teams and offering a fair amount of functionality that Slack doesn't have - namely Office 365 integration.

That's according to MS Power User, which points out that Office 365 integration and compatibility with services like OneDrive could be the features that make Skype Teams stand out from the rest, especially for businesses that use these services. Skype Teams won't be entirely different from Slack, though, as it'll still offer persistent chat channels for teams to use, along with granting users the ability to direct message one another.

Microsoft is said to be breaking away from the way Slack does messaging though, allowing for threaded conversations within channels. This means that users will be able to respond to a message with a chain of comments that resemble a thread of Facebook comments. It sounds like Skype Teams is trying to do away with the disjointed conversations that form as groups attempt to discuss different things at once, which is a nice thing to hear.

Of course, Slack does a lot of things right, and Microsoft plans to borrow some of those well-working features for Skype Teams. Perhaps most notably will be the inclusion of a sidebar, which features different tabs that allow users to jump between teams, access files, and view all of their direct message conversations.

All in all, it sounds like Microsoft isn't trying to iterate where it's not needed - instead, it wants to add onto what Slack already offers, and you can bet things like Office 365 integration will make Skype Teams an attractive alternative to Slack for businesses that need to use a messaging platform in their day-to-day work.

Obviously, remain somewhat skeptical of these claims until Microsoft comes out with an official announcement, but keep in mind that Microsoft did intend to purchase Slack at one point in time, so to hear that it has plans to develop a team-based messaging platform of its own isn't entirely surprising. MS Power User says that Microsoft is planning to roll out Skype Teams to Office 365 subscribers once its own internal testing is finished, and then at some point after, we should see it arrive with in-browser functionality and a Windows app, along with mobile apps for iOS, Android, and Windows Phone. Stay tuned.
